Miscellaneous - Till System

The till workstations are touch screen - based microcomputers that combine the functions of both a PC and a user workstation. The touch screen has a smooth, flat, touch-sensitive liquid crystal display surface. Up to 60 touch screen keys per screen are fully programmable, and vary in key size and character size. The advantage of a touch screen is that it displays only the keys needed to complete a particular transaction. Printer: Produces all guest checks, also produces individual orders for the chefs to prepare.

The screen displays all the information relating to the transaction. It prompts you at each stage through the transaction by displaying a message to tell you what to do next through easy to follow instructions. When in doubt, simply look at the screen. A plastic cover protects the glass display screen. Never poke or draw on it. Clean it with a clean damp cloth only.

There are two types of Keys

Direct Access Keys

A direct access key posts a menu item or performs a function without any intermediate steps. Keys may be optionally programmed to require intermediate steps, such as entering a price, reference number, or authorisation number.

Look up Keys

A look up key displays two or more items on the screen, from which you may choose one or more.

The "Previous Screen" key will return you to the screen that was previously displayed. Upon touching it the last touch screen used will appear. You may use this button as many times as you wish until you reach the screen desired. However, you may only go back to the first screen you accessed.

Some of the screens contain a lot of information, which is too great to fit on the display. In order to access all information, simply press the "Page UP" and "Page Down" buttons until you find the information you require.

On all tills the "Start Screen" will show while the till is not in use.

There are presently two ways of entering a tables order onto the Till system either with an ID card or via a 14 digit number code. Here in this company, in order to sign onto the screen you must swipe your till card downwards along the right hand side of the screen. This will then activate the "Screen" and allow you to input any information necessary by pressing the appropriate box.

From this screen, you may continue to access any screens that you require. Once swiping your card, your name will appear at the top of the screen, this will indicate that you have commenced a transaction. If you do not proceed with a transaction immediately, the till will return to the original screen and sign you off. To sign back on you will need to swipe your card once more.

Self Service restaurants will go straight into the menu options as they are on a fast transaction modus as the guest pays immediately upon order.

At a small number of restaurants, once you have swiped onto the till, a plan of the restaurant will appear. The plan will show all of the tables as they are laid out in the restaurant, with the same number system. To enter a customer’s order onto the till system, simply touch the table number on the screen. The screen will then ask if you want to.

To commence the order simply press the "Begin Table" prompt on the screen. Once you have pressed it, the screen will then prompt you to enter the "Table Number".

To enter the table number, press the numbers required, then press Enter.

Once you have entered the table number, the screen will then prompt you to enter the Number of Guests. At this point, you must enter the total number of customers sat at the table where you took the order. It does not matter if you have less food orders than the number of people sat at the table.

To enter the number of customers sat at your table, press the numbers required, and then press Enter.

The screen will then change, and display the "Menu" available at the restaurant.

At this point, you will need to enter the customer’s choice by simply pressing the appropriate prompt on the screen. This will then appear on the screen, where you can see all that you are ordering. Some choices when pressed will make another screen appear with a wider variety of specific choices.

For example, If a customer orders a Cappuccino, press Hot Drinks, this will then take you into a screen which will shows the "Drink Menu" at that restaurant.

Once you have selected the necessary customer choices, you can alternate between screens by pressing the appropriate group choices, E.G: If you are in the Hot Drinks screen and you need to order some more meals, press Food and you will return to the Food screen.

Once you have completed the customer food order, the kitchen will need to receive a copy of the order. To do this you press Send; this will then generate a copy of the order at the printer in the kitchen or food preparation area.
